What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin sheaths, sometimes called shells, that we attach to the outward-facing surface of the teeth. Their purpose is to hide imperfections. They are often used to address issues like:

  • Chips and cracks
  • Asymmetrical teeth
  • Small gaps between the teeth
  • Teeth that are too small
  • Stubborn discoloration
  • And more!

Veneers are usually made of porcelain, a stain-resistant material that is almost indistinguishable from natural tooth enamel. With proper care, veneers have the potential to last for up to 15 – 20 years or longer.

The Process of Getting Veneers

The process of getting dental veneers requires at least two appointments. During the first appointment, we prepare the teeth that will receive veneers. Typically, this involves the removal of a sliver of enamel (if you choose to get DURAthin prepless veneers, little to no enamel modification is necessary). Once your teeth are ready, we will use our digital scanner to take detailed impressions. We will also place temporary veneers on your teeth.

You will wear the temporary veneers for a while (perhaps a few weeks) while a laboratory fabricates your permanent ones. When your permanent veneers get sent to us, we will double-check that they meet our expectations before we securely attach them to your teeth.

Benefits of Veneers

Veneers offer a multitude of benefits, including:

  • Natural appearance: Veneers are custom-crafted to complement the size, shape, and color of your surrounding teeth, resulting in a seamless, lifelike smile that others will admire.
  • Long-lasting results: With proper care and maintenance, porcelain veneers can maintain their beauty and function for 15 – 20 years or more.
  • Stain resistance: Porcelain, the material most commonly used for veneers, is highly resistant to staining from coffee, tea, wine, and other foods and beverages that typically discolor natural teeth.
  • Versatility: Veneers are a versatile cosmetic treatment, able to address a wide range of dental imperfections. They can also be designed according to your preferences. Just let our team know if you want to achieve a specific look (pictures are helpful).
  • Boost in confidence: By enhancing the uniformity and brightness of your smile, veneers can dramatically improve your confidence in both social and professional settings.
  • Easy maintenance: Caring for veneers is simple — maintain regular brushing, flossing, and dental visits as you would with your natural teeth, and your veneers will likely continue to look beautiful year after year.

Understanding the Cost of Veneers

Veneers are one of the higher-priced cosmetic dentistry options due to the time, skill, and materials that go into making and placing them. The total cost of your treatment will depend on how many veneers you get and other factors; our team will be happy to provide a detailed estimate during your cosmetic consultation. We can also explain payment options, such as financing.

Although veneers can seem expensive, they are actually a wonderful value! Their longevity and outstanding beauty make them a smart investment for image-conscious individuals who want to enjoy a truly radiant and confident smile for the long-term.
